OpenWRT/X-WRT

A while ago I bought a Linksys WRT54GL home router and for some strange reason this thing failed on me and startet to reset the DSL connection every few uploaded bytes. So when I was uploading a certain amount of data, my connection was gone randomly. It seemes very unlikely to me, that this was a hardware problem, so I got the idea to try an open source firmware :)

I now have flashed both of my home routers (Linksys WRT54GL and ASUS WL-500gP) with OpenWRT/X-WRT. It all went quite smothly, everything works and now I have two more sexy linux boxes in my room :-) The X-Wrt web-frontend is much better then the original frontends, exspecially the ASUS one looked more then ugly. But probably 90% of their customers flash the router anyway, I guess. Let's see how the new Linksys behaves, hope that bug is gone now.

So, I can recommend OpenWRT/X-WRT to everyone else, too. There is the small risk of "bricking" your box, but it's not to high when you follow the tutorials carefully.

Happy New Year to everyone, btw :)
